India registered another dominating Test series win against Sri Lanka inflicting a clean sweep in the three-match series over the opposition. India managed to win the pink-all Test in Bangalore by a huge margin of 238 runs. The Indian team completely dominated the visitors and Shreyas Iyer played a crucial role in it. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers and Rishabh Pant also played a vital part in the win.
However, Shreyas Iyer played a dominating knock of 92 runs from 98 balls in pressure situations that too on a turning track as he missed the century by just eight runs. He played another beautiful knock of 67 runs in the second inning as well. Iyer has been in phenomenal form recently as he remained unbeaten in the T20 series against Sri Lanka and also was in good touch in recent Tests.
Reflecting on the innings by Shreyas Iyer, legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has predicted that Shreyas will be the next big thing in Indian cricket in the next six-eight months.
During a chat on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said, “Yes certainly, he is looking like that. Because anybody who plays the way he did…it is very attractive batting that he has, the shots that he has. He is a good-looking young man. So it all points to the fact that in the next six-eight months he could be the next big thing in Indian cricket.”
Shreyas Iyer was named Player of the Match for his performance in the second Test. He said that he wants to keep this form going.
Talking about his performances, Shreyas Iyer said, “I have always dreamt about playing Test cricket for India, good feeling to come and contribute, want to keep this going.”
