Sunil Gavaskar Receives Special Felicitation At Queen’s Park Cricket Club

Sunil Gavaskar, the iconic Indian batsman, received a special tribute at the Queen’s Park Cricket Club from West Indies legend Brian Lara. The ongoing second Test match between India and West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad marks their 100th Test encounter in the longest format of the game.

Gavaskar, in response to the felicitation, shared a video on his social media, displaying his joy as the members of the Queen’s Park Cricket Club presented him with a memento to commemorate the historic occasion. The 74-year-old cricketing icon also posted photos with Brian Lara, affectionately known as ‘The Prince of Trinidad’.

“With the ‘Prince of Trinidad’, Brian Lara, and Nigel Camacho, president of QPCC, after the lovely felicitation by Queens Park Cricket Club in Trinidad. My home away from home. Much love and gratitude to my West Indian fans,” Gavaskar captioned the Instagram post.

Throughout his illustrious career, Sunil Gavaskar amassed 2749 runs from 27 Test matches, maintaining an impressive average of 65.45, which includes 13 centuries and seven half-centuries. One of his most memorable innings was an unbeaten 236 against the West Indies in Chennai during the 1983 series, which remains his highest Test score. Additionally, he scored 1404 runs in 13 matches under challenging West Indian conditions.

Meanwhile, in the second Test match of the series, India’s Virat Kohli marked his 500th international match with a splendid knock of 121 runs off 206 deliveries, propelling India to a total of 438 in the first innings. For the hosts, Kemar Roach and Jomel Warrican both took three wickets.

In response, West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite scored a half-century, leading his team to 229/5 at stumps on Day 3. India’s Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets, while Mohammed Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin, and debutant Mukesh Kumar claimed one wicket each. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian side is determined to secure a win in the Trinidad Test and achieve a comprehensive whitewash in the series.
