Former India player Sunil Gavaskar has applauded India’s star bowler Harshal Patel and believes he will be a trump card for Rohit Sharma-led Team India at the ICC World T20 2022. After a rather forgetful campaign in the last edition of the mega event, India will hope for an improved show under the leadership of Rohit Sharma as well. However, defending champions Australia will host the next edition of the T20 World Cup later this year as well.

Meanwhile, India took on South Africa for a five-match T20I series at home after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. In the absence of star players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant-led Team India ended the five-match T20I series in a 2-2 as the final match on Sunday was washed out. While talking about the bowling performance of the Bhuvneshwar Kumar-starrer India team, batting legend Sunil Gavaskar praised pacer Harshal Patel for his impressive show against the Proteas.

While speaking to Star Sports after the conclusion of the T20I series, Gavaskar said, “He will be one of the trumps cards because you have Bhuvneshwar, Shami and Bumrah as well. Brilliant for a skipper to have someone like him to depend on, He can come in and bowl may be even in the powerplay where people are now going with change of pace. So yes he certainly should be part of the group.”

However, Pacer Harshal Patel was the leading wicket-taker for the Indian side in the five-match series against South Africa. The speedster has picked up 7 wickets in the recently concluded T20I series as well. In the absence of pace ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, the RCB star bowler will spearhead India’s pace attack with vice-captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the Ireland T20I series also.
