India enjoyed a historic day at Tokyo Olympics on Saturday, August 7, as Neeraj Chopra bagged a historic gold medal in Javelin Throw. On the other hand, Bajrang Punia won a bronze medal in Wrestling to add another medal in the tally. The whole nation was over the moon with Neeraj’s golden effort and Sunil Gavaskar wasn’t behind in showcasing his emotions.

Neeraj’s final event was scheduled to begin at 4:30 IST on Saturday and India’s cricket team was playing a Test match against England at the same time. However, the Javelin Throw event gathered a lot of expectations and everyone was glued to the TV screen including the commentators for the Test match.

Sunil Gavaskar, Ashish Nehra and Ajay Jadeja were seen clapping for Neeraj Chopra’s effort and as soon as India’s gold medal was confirmed everyone got on their feet to celebrate this rare moment. Sunil Gavaskar couldn’t hold his emotions back and started singing the popular song ‘Mere Desh Ki Dharti’ and shook his feet on the tunes.

The rest of the broadcasting team was also very elated during this historic moment. The video of commentators celebrating Chopra’s win got viral on social media.

This was not it, veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle admitted that it was a tricky show to host during the post-lunch session of the Nottingham Test. He mentioned his mind was somewhere far away from the cricket while he was doing the show.

Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal in Javelin Throw at Tokyo Olympics 2020. He threw an 87.58-meter throw in just his second attempt and it was enough for him to finish at the top. He became the first Indian since Abhinav Bindra to win an individual gold medal in Olympics. Also, this is the first medal for India in athletics in the history of the Olympics.
