Former India cricketer turned veteran commentator Sunil Gavaskar has said that it was evident Team India would not be able to survive the day after Cheteshwar Pujara got out early on Saturday. Pujara failed to add more runs to his overnight total of 91 on Day 4, getting dismissed to the player of the match Ollie Robinson.
And, after that, Team India lost the rest of the seven wickets in the next 16 overs as well. However, Gavaskar said that while India’s tailenders scored runs in the second Test at Lord’s, it was more because England failed in their plans and they didn’t do those mistakes on Saturday.
“We did have some rear guard action at Lord’s, when I think England lost the plot more than anything else. Once those top three wickets fell, it was clear they were not going to be able to survive for too long. But yes, for seven wickets to fall in 54 minutes is, by any stretch of imagination, a little hard to take,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Sony after the match.

Notably, Robinson claimed five wickets, including India captain Virat Kohli on 55 soon after Pujara’s dismissal. Ravindra Jadeja was the only player who has scored a significant amount of runs after that, as he decided to play his shots when Team India were down to their last three players as well. Eventually, India lost the match by an innings and 76 runs and with this, England has levelled the series 1-1. The fourth Test will take place in the Oval from September 2.
“It’s a dream to be honest, to get a man of the match award in my first win for England. I enjoyed bowling here before, and it’s nice to use the conditions here, so I’m happy to get a five-for here,” Ollie Robinson said after winning the player of the match award.

“To bowl with Jimmy and learn from him is an honour. It has only improved my game. I keep learning and trying to be as good as possible. It’s nice to get Kohli after he got me for two fours in the over – it’s a simple plan to Virat, fourth and fifth stump, get it to angle away, and hope he nicks it and he did. Feel fine, nice to have a break between Tests, freshen up and get the body recovered, looking forward to the next,” Ollie Robinson concluded.
