The Indian cricket team faced a disappointing conclusion to the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, losing the fifth and final Test at the historic Sydney Cricket Ground. With a 3-1 series loss, India’s hopes of securing a spot in the World Test Championship final in June were dashed. The series had started on a promising note, with a commanding 295-run victory in Perth. However, subsequent defeats in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney, coupled with a rain-affected draw in Brisbane, left India outclassed by a dominant Australian side.
Following the series loss, former Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar expressed his frustration with the team’s underwhelming performance. In a post-match discussion on Star Sports, Gavaskar did not hold back, making a series of sarcastic remarks that reflected his disappointment.
“Who are we? We don’t know cricket. We just speak for the sake of TV and get paid. Don’t listen to us; we’re nothing. Listen from one ear and remove it from the other,” he said, his tone cutting and indicative of his discontent with the state of Indian cricket.

Adding to his grievances, Gavaskar also voiced his disapproval of being excluded from the post-series presentation ceremony. While Allan Border was invited to present the trophy to Australian captain Pat Cummins, Gavaskar fulfilled his media obligations away from the spotlight.
honestly speaking, if the trophy was named after me i’d have been pissed in a similar way

Sharing his thoughts with Star Sports, he remarked, “I certainly would have loved to be there for the presentation. It’s the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, symbolizing the cricketing relationship between Australia and India. Whether Australia won or not shouldn’t matter. They played better cricket, and they deserved the win. But as an Indian, it felt like I wasn’t considered. I would’ve been delighted to share that moment with my good friend Allan Border.”

Gavaskar’s comments not only highlighted his passion for the game but also raised questions about respect for cricketing legends, irrespective of the series outcome. His reflections underscore the challenges ahead for the Indian team as they regroup and prepare for future campaigns.
