Punjab Kings’ spin bowling coach Sunil Joshi has thrown his weight behind Glenn Maxwell, calling the seasoned Australian all-rounder one of the team’s key spin assets in IPL 2025. As Punjab prepare to face Rajasthan Royals on April 5 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Joshi made it clear that Maxwell’s bowling contributions have become integral to their strategy — regardless of the playing conditions or surface.

Though Maxwell’s form with the bat hasn’t quite caught fire yet this season, his impact with the ball has been quietly effective. In the two games he has played, Maxwell has taken two crucial wickets — both of them being opposition skippers: Rishabh Pant of Lucknow Super Giants and Shubman Gill of Gujarat Titans.
Those dismissals have helped Punjab seize key moments in matches, reinforcing Maxwell’s value beyond just his explosive batting reputation. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Joshi emphasized Maxwell’s experience and adaptability as vital components of Punjab’s success formula this year.

“Maxwell is definitely one of our most important spin options,” Sunil Joshi stated. “Every venue has its own challenges, and Maxwell reads the conditions incredibly well. He’s already delivered for us with the ball, and given his experience on the big stage, we expect him to continue playing a vital role, especially in our home games.”

Punjab Kings, under new captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Ricky Ponting, have made a dream start to their IPL 2025 campaign with two back-to-back wins over Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants. Their balanced squad and sharp execution have placed them at the top of the points table ahead of the weekend clash.

The game against the Rajasthan Royals, however, is expected to be a tougher test. With Sanju Samson returning to lead the Royals and their confidence boosted by a win over Chennai Super Kings, PBKS will need their key players — including Iyer, Prabhsimran, and Maxwell — to bring their A-game in what promises to be a thrilling contest in Mullanpur.
