The West Indies mystery spinner, Sunil Narine has always been considered as one of the most successful spinners in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He played a significant role in Kolkata Knight Riders’ victories in the 2012 and 2014 seasons. The right-hander had an incredible economy of 5.57 in the 14 league games he featured in IPL 2022. Narine, who added minor tweaks to his bowling action was the most economical bowler of the season.
Sunil Narine managed to scalp 9 wickets in those 14 matches for KKR in 2022. The Caribbean star chipped in with the bat as well in the role of a pinch hitter. He contributed more than 100 runs and had a brilliant strike rate of 177. The 34-year-old has been one of the most integral parts of the Kolkata-based franchise for more than a decade now.

Narine started his journey with the Gautam Gambhir-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the year 2012 and is still a prominent member of the team. Meanwhile, Sunil Narine opened up on the day he was picked up by KKR. He confessed that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder, Dwayne Bravo, who is another marquee Caribbean bowler told him about the development of being picked in the IPL auction in 2012.
Sunil Narine said that he did not believe the right-arm seamer for the first time after hearing the news due to his comical nature. He went on to reveal that former West Indies skipper, Kieron Pollard had also messaged him about the same right after he was acquired by Kolkata.
Explaining the same during a chat with Cricket Monthly, Sunil Narine, “When the auction happened, DJ Bravo told me I had been signed, but I know he likes to play games, so I didn’t believe him. Then Pollard messaged me and I said to him, ‘This can’t be real. When they buy you for this amount, do they actually pay you that?’”

He further added, “With that price, the expectation is always high. I didn’t play the first game, so I realized I wasn’t an automatic pick despite the high price. It was an early wake-up call. I had to play good cricket.”
