Rohit Sharma’s recent struggles with the bat continued as Mumbai Indians (MI) faced Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2024. In a crucial match at Wankhede Stadium on Friday, May 3, the MI skipper’s departure for just 11 runs off 12 balls left the hosts in a precarious position at 46/3.

This wasn’t the first time Rohit had struggled with the bat in recent matches. In his last three outings, he managed scores of 6, 8, and 4 as MI suffered defeats against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Despite this, Rohit has accumulated 326 runs in 11 matches this season, including a century against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

As the T20 World Cup 2024 approaches, Rohit Sharma will be keen to rediscover his form. Meanwhile, KKR showcased a stellar bowling performance in the IPL clash, with Mitchell Starc dismissing Ishan Kishan early.

Sunil Narine’s crucial wicket of Rohit was part of their disciplined effort, with Varun Chakaravarthy also contributing by dismissing Naman Dhir and Tilak Varma.

Despite Suryakumar Yadav’s half-century, MI struggled to chase down KKR’s total and were eventually bowled out for 145 in the 19th over. Earlier, KKR posted 169 runs on the board, thanks to Venkatesh Iyer’s resilient 70 and Manish Pandey’s valuable 42.

Jasprit Bumrah and Nuwan Thushara starred with the ball for MI, taking three wickets each, while skipper Hardik Pandya and Piyush Chawla also chipped in with crucial scalps. However, KKR’s total proved to be too much for MI to chase down, resulting in a disappointing loss for the defending champions.
