Before the start of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has made a huge announcement. They have made their veteran opener, David Warner will be leading the IPL team. David Warner has been re-named his captain by the same team, which did not allow him to play in the 2018 season of the IPL.
In IPL 2018, David Warner was banned by the franchise, because Cricket Australia (CA) had banned him for one year due to his involvement in the infamous ball-tampering scandal. However, in IPL 2019, he played IPL for the Sunrisers and was the highest run-scorer as he went on to amass 692 runs.

Talking about his captaincy, Warner said, “I’m thrilled to be given the captaincy for this coming IPL 2020. I’m extremely grateful to be given the opportunity to lead the team once again. I’d like to thank Kane and Bhuvi for the way you guys led throughout the last couple of years, you guys did an outstanding job.”
He further added, “And I’ll be leaning on you guys for the support and your insight into the game as well. And to the management thank you once again for giving me this opportunity. And I’ll try my very, very best to lifting that IPL Trophy this year.”
The veteran southpaw opener had led the Sunrisers Hyderabad before and won the title to the team. While captaining the team in 2016, Warner made SRH the champions, while in 2018, SRH lost to Chennai Super King (IPL)s in the final. In 2013, the Hyderabad based franchise had started playing in the IPL, during which the team captain was Kumar Sangakkara.

Warner, who was found guilty of tampering with the sand-paper gate, resigned as captain of the Sunrisers team. After this, Kane Williamson was elected as the captain of the team in the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Although Warner played the IPL last year, he did not get a chance to lead the team due to the two-year captaincy ban. At the same time, in IPL 2019, the team made a place in the qualifiers but had to end their journey to fourth place after losing to defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI).
