Chennai Super Kings’ veteran batsman Suresh Raina has given a big update about the captain, MS Dhoni. He said that he would convince his captain, Dhoni, to play one more year in the Indian Premier League if they win the title this season when it resumes in the United Arab Emirates in September.
CSK, who had a rather forgettable show in 2020, bounced back in form this year and placed second on the IPL 2021 points table with 5 wins from 7 games before the season was cancelled due to the second wave of COVID-19 in India. The tournament will, however, be played in the UAE once again as the BCCI has decided this keeping the coronavirus situation in mind.

Suresh Raina, who missed IPL 2020 due to personal reasons, has returned to the squad this season and he was in great form after having scored 123 runs after returning but said that he will only play for CSK if MS Dhoni is there by his side on the field as well.
“If Dhoni bhai doesn’t play next season, I too won’t play. We’ve been playing since 2008 (for CSK) if we win this year then I’ll convince him to play next year too,” Raina told News 24 Sports.
Meanwhile, Raina, who had announced his retirement from international cricket just hours after MS Dhoni did on August 15 last year, also cleared the air about the possibility of playing for any other franchise other than three-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings as well.

However, Suresh Raina had played for Gujarat Lions for two seasons in 2016 and 2017 when CSK was banned for two years from the Indian Premier League but reunited again with MS Dhoni in 2018 and went on to clinch their third IPL title after 2010 and 2011 as well.
“I have four-five years left in me. We have the IPL this year, and then two more teams next year. But I think I’ll play only for CSK till I play. I hope we do well this year,” Suresh Raina concluded.
