Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has been a standout performer for India in recent cricketing encounters, solidifying his place in the ODI squad with a series of impressive performances. In the ODI series against the West Indies, Kishan scored three consecutive half-centuries, showcasing his ability to perform consistently with the bat. His resilience was once again on display in India’s Asia Cup 2023 campaign opener against Pakistan, where he played a pivotal role in rescuing the team from a top-order collapse.

When Kishan walked to the crease, India was struggling at 66 for 4. However, he joined forces with vice-captain Hardik Pandya to forge a remarkable 138-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Kishan’s ability to handle pressure and adapt to different batting positions has made him a valuable asset to the team. Whether as a trusted middle-order batsman or as an opener, the 25-year-old has consistently delivered when it matters most.

Suresh Raina, who played with Kishan at Gujarat Lions in the IPL, said that he always felt the youngster should open the batting.

“I always said that Ishan Kishan has to open up because he is a strong character who maintains a good team atmosphere. He worked really hard even during those days,” Suresh Raina said.

“Since he hails from Ranchi he spoke to MS Dhoni, and everyone wants to be like Dhoni there. Also, because of the way Ishan contributed to Jharkhand, Dhoni told me to observe his wicket-keeping progress,” he added.

Ishan Kishan is a team player and always willing to contribute in any way he can. He is also a very hard worker and is always looking to improve his game. He will be playing the first-ever ODI World Cup with the senior men’s team in less than a month’s time. But before that, his batting will be tested by the Pakistan bowling attack once again in the ongoing Asia Cup.
