Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina is set to be a part of the Lanka Premier League 2023 Auction, which will take place on June 14. With over 500 players, including 140 overseas cricketers, putting their names up for the auction, Raina aims to showcase his potential to the Sri Lankan crowd.

Scheduled from July 31 to August 22, the fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League will feature five teams: Colombo Strikers, Dambulla Aura, Jaffna Kings, Kandy Falcons, and Galle Gladiators. Raina has reportedly registered for the auction with a base price of USD 50,000. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) released a list of international and domestic cricketers who will go under the hammer on June 14.

Raina, known for his contributions to the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), holds an impressive record as one of the tournament’s leading run-scorers. After announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket in September 2022, he participated in the Legends League Cricket in March this year.

Having played 205 IPL matches and amassed over 5,500 runs, including a century, Raina’s prowess with the bat is well established. He was also the first Indian cricketer to score a hundred across all three formats of the game and played a crucial role in India’s triumphs in the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy.

Raina currently holds the sixth position in the all-time leading run scorers list in IPL history. With a career spanning nearly 8,000 runs in international cricket, Raina’s experience and skills make him a valuable addition to any team. His presence in the Lanka Premier League will undoubtedly add excitement and competitiveness to the tournament.

Ahead of the auction, LPL franchises have the opportunity to directly sign two local and two overseas players each. Subsequently, they can select 14 local players and six overseas players to complete their squads for the upcoming tournament.
