The group stage Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) would’ve left many CSK fans disappointed following the 6-wicket loss of the defending champions. However, there was a bright moment for Chennai fans earlier on Thursday, former CSK player, Suresh Raina, dedicated a Tamil Song to the former skipper, MS  Dhoni.

Raina, while appearing on a cameo for Star Sports Tamil commentary team, decided to oblige a Twitter fan’s request. When asked by a fellow commentator to sing the iconic ‘Namma Thala Dhoni ku periya whistle adinga’ line from CSK’s Tamilian fan anthem, Mr. IPL didn’t hesitate for even a second to present his rendition of respect for his beloved former captain.

For the unversed, the song’s lyric talks about Chennai and Tamil Nadu fans supporting and blowing whistles loud for their favorite captain cool, Thala MS Dhoni. Here’s the clip of Raina’s song video as edited by Twitter user Manoj Maddy. Also, full points to Raina for showing his permanent CSK love for sporting a yellow pocket square on his jacket.

It would appear that Raina’s song really amped up Thala Dhoni to perform at his optimal best, as he played a brilliant cameo of 16 off 10 balls lower down the order to propel Chennai’s score to a solid 210/7. Unfortunately, as it would later turn out, Thala and the CSK batters’ efforts weren’t nearly enough, as the KL Rahul led Lucknow franchise successfully chased down the target.

A combination of newbie CSK bowlers not being able to find their rhythms and the Lucknow batting unit performing brilliantly in tandem meant that Chennai- for the first time in their 13-year IPL history- stayed winless after their opening 2 IPL games. Lucknow, meanwhile, comfortably cruised to their maiden victory of the season.
