Team India is currently in England for the upcoming five-match Test series against England. However, before that, they got a big blow as their young opener Shubman Gill has been ruled out with injury. While many have been asking for Prithvi Shaw, Bengal player Abhimanyu Easwaran is also in talks of replacing Gill as well. However, former Indian selector Sarandeep Singh didn’t look impressed with the selection of Abhimanyu.

However, Prithvi Shaw has been in a sublime form ever since his stunning show in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. After that, he did well while playing for the Delhi Capitals in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well. Although he wasn’t selected in the squad for the WTC final against New Zealand and the five-match Test series against England, he has been added to the 20-member squad for the Sri Lanka series.

While Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma are there still, Bengal’s Abhimanyu Easwaran has also been there as a reserve player for the four-month tour. And, Sarandeep Singh shared his surprise over his inclusion instead of Shaw. He also backed RCB’s opening batter Devdutt Padikkal in India’s Test team as well.

“I am surprised with Easwaran’s selection. I thought Prithvi Shaw is an experienced player at the international level and has played Tests. He is currently in form also. He should have been included. I would have even thought of Devdutt Padikkal because you need to reward domestic performances too,” Sarandeep Singh was quoted as saying by Times Now.

Meanwhile, he recently said that the management should groom someone like Shardul Thakur. “You can’t be relying only on Hardik anymore. You don’t know when he will be fit enough to bowl in all formats so someone like Shardul needs to be groomed or even Vijay Shankar or Shivam Dube are there,” Sarandeep Singh had said to PTI.
