One of the leading historical clubs in England, Surrey is now bidding its best to bring two current legends together for their first-class team as they made their intentions clear regarding Steven Smith. The county coach Michael Di Venuto in a public statement said that he would be delighted to have Steve Smith playing for the county if the British administrators allow him. Surrey already has contracted Virat Kohli.

Steve Smith

Steve Smith was the Australian captain when the sandpaper gate happened in Australia’s tour to South Africa. Cricket Australia found him as an ally to the whole act and he was found guilty in the investigations. Following the development, Smith was handed one year ban from cricket. At that point, Steve Smith was the number one ranked batsman in Test cricket.

His closest rival in the Test cricket is India’s leading batsman Virat Kohli. The aggression personified batter is ruling the cricket world in all three formats. One by one he has refuted every criticism levied on him. The only one that remains now is his failure on the English tour. To tackle the same he has decided to take the ultimate practice route.

Kohli has signed up with Surrey to play a few first-class matches this summer. The move will help Virat in preparing better for upcoming India’s tour of England. England is one place where Kohli has struggled. His weakness of edging outside off-stump balls has been well exploited since. It is still the one battle that Kohli is yet to conquer.

Now that Surrey is bidding to have Steve Smith‘s services, we may get treated to the glorious sight of watching Steve Smith and Virat Kohli stroking mammoth partnerships together while tonking a red-ball on the lush English grounds. The decision is presently in hands of the British administrators to allow the tainted Australian to play or not.
