India batter Suryakumar Yadav shared his battle against illness before the T20I decider against Australia, revealing that he asked the doctor and physio to give him medicine or injection but prepare him for the third match in Hyderabad as well. However, Suryakumar played a stunning knock of 69 off 36 balls to help India beat Australia by 6 wickets and win the T20I series 2-1 also. Suryakumar added a crucial 104-run partnership for the third wicket with Virat Kohli, helping India recover from early hiccups as well.
In a BCCI video, Suryakumar said: “The weather changed last night and there has been a change in travelling. Because of all this, I had a stomach ache, then got a fever as well, but at the same time I knew that it was a decider game. So I told my doctor and physio that if there is a World Cup final how will I react? I can’t sit out with illness. So you do whatever it takes, give me any medicine or injection but prepare me for the evening match. And once I’m on ground in this (India) jersey then there is a different emotion for me.”
However, Australia posted 186/7 after being put into bat. Cameron Green and Tim David hit half-centuries each to help their side after Axar Patel (3/33) rattled the visitors’ middle-order as well. While chasing, India lost both openers, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma very quickly. Later, Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli resurrect the innings and after the dismissal of Suryakumar, Kohli (63 off 48) and Hardik Pandya (25* off 16) took India home in the last-over thriller as well.
