India captain Suryakumar Yadav celebrated the country’s historic ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 triumph with a special photo shoot at the iconic Adalaj Stepwell, also known as Adalaj ni Vav. The moment came shortly after India’s dominant 96-run victory over the New Zealand national cricket team in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Holding the prestigious ICC Men’s T20 World Cup trophy, Yadav posed inside the historic monument complex, drawing huge crowds of cricket fans eager to witness the celebration. Interestingly, the same venue had earlier hosted the controversial pre-final trophy photo shoot during the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup before the India-Australia final — a match that India eventually lost.
This time, however, the mood was completely different as fans celebrated a long-awaited moment of triumph. As news spread about the captain’s visit, thousands of supporters gathered around the stepwell and nearby streets. Some fans even climbed terraces and surrounding walls to catch a glimpse of the trophy and their victorious skipper.

When Yadav arrived, chants of “India… India” echoed through the heritage complex, turning the historic site into a vibrant celebration zone. Due to the expected crowd, security personnel were deployed across the monument area to maintain order. Despite the heavy security presence, fans enthusiastically waved flags and cheered as Yadav posed with the trophy, creating unforgettable scenes for those present.

The Adalaj Stepwell is one of Gujarat’s most famous historical landmarks and attracts visitors from across India and abroad. Located about 18 kilometres from Ahmedabad, the stepwell was built in 1499 by Queen Rudabai, the wife of Vaghela ruler Rana Veer Singh. The five-storey architectural marvel is known for its intricate carvings, ornate pillars, and a distinctive Indo-Islamic design that reflects the region’s rich cultural heritage.

Historically, the stepwell served as both a water reservoir and a resting place for travellers during medieval times. Today, its beautifully sculpted galleries and symmetrical structure make it one of the most admired heritage sites in Gujarat.
India’s triumph under Yadav’s leadership marked several historic milestones. The team successfully defended their title after winning the previous edition and became the first nation to win the T20 World Cup on home soil. With victories in 2007, 2024, and 2026, India also became the first team to lift the trophy three times.
