India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has opened up about his recent batting slump, maintaining confidence despite a string of low scores in 2025. Though he guided India to an Asia Cup triumph, Surya has managed only 100 runs in 11 T20I innings this year, raising concerns ahead of the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia, starting October 29 in Canberra.

Speaking to reporters in Canberra, the India skipper admitted that runs have been hard to come by but emphasised that his preparation remains strong.
“I feel like I’ve been working really hard. It’s not that I wasn’t before — I’ve been training both at home and here. Runs will come eventually, but for now, it’s about contributing to the team’s goals,” he said with characteristic composure.

As captain, Surya’s numbers — 330 runs in 20 innings — haven’t quite reflected his natural flair. His Asia Cup 2025 campaign highlighted a few struggles against both spin and pace, but his IPL 2025 season told a different story. Representing the Mumbai Indians, he smashed 717 runs in 16 innings at a fiery strike rate of 167.90, reaffirming his reputation as one of the most explosive T20 batters in the world.

Backing his skipper, coach Gautam Gambhir brushed off concerns about Surya’s dip in form, reinforcing the team’s attacking philosophy.
“Surya’s form doesn’t worry me. We’ve committed to an ultra-aggressive brand of cricket, and that’s non-negotiable. It’s okay to fail while being fearless,” Gautam Gambhir said.

As India gears up for the Australian challenge, Surya’s leadership and self-belief remain unwavering. The team management trusts that a big knock is just around the corner — one that could reignite the spark of India’s most inventive T20 batter.
