Team India opener Abhishek Sharma had a mixed outing in the fourth T20I against Australia on November 6 at the Gold Coast. The left-hander, who has built a reputation for his explosive starts, managed 28 runs off 21 balls, striking at 133.33—significantly lower than his impressive career T20I strike rate of 189.83. Despite the subdued tempo, Abhishek stitched together a valuable 56-run stand off 6.4 overs with Shubman Gill, giving India a steady platform in challenging batting conditions.

The moment that stole the spotlight, however, came after the match. India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, known for his humour and candid dressing-room remarks, cheekily teased Abhishek for his uncharacteristically slow knock.

In a now-viral video, Suryakumar Yadav can be heard joking, “Kabhi dekha hai sher ko ghaas khaate hue?” before adding, “Aaj sher ghaas khaa raha tha… dheere dheere karke.” The light-hearted banter showcased the relaxed yet competitive environment within the squad.

Gill was the top-scorer for India with 46 off 39, while Suryakumar chipped in with a brisk 20 off 10 at No. 4. Despite finishing with a modest 167/8, India’s bowlers ensured the total was more than enough. Australia crumbled under pressure, bowled out for 119 in 18.2 overs, handing India a comfortable 48-run victory and a 2-1 series lead.

Washington Sundar was the standout performer with the ball, delivering a remarkable spell of 3 wickets for just 3 runs in 1.2 overs. Shivam Dube and Axar Patel also impressed, picking up two wickets each.

After the match, Suryakumar hailed the team’s collective effort, praising Abhishek and Gill for adapting quickly to a surface that wasn’t conducive to high-scoring cricket. He credited the clarity in communication from the support staff, adding that the bowlers adjusted superbly even with dew setting in.

With momentum on their side, India now head into the final match in Brisbane with confidence and a chance to seal the series.
