He added another feather to his illustrious international career as he became the quickest batsman to surpass the landmark of 12000 runs in ODIs. He completed the landmark during the final of the three-match series against Australia at Manuka Oval in Canberra. For the achievement, he received appreciation from Mumbai Indian’s top-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav.
Virat beat the record of legend Sachin Tendulkar becoming the fastest to reach the milestone. The Delhi Stalwart completed a mammoth 12,000 runs in ODIs during his 242nd innings while Tendulkar had achieved this feat in his 300th ODI innings. As the Indian skipper surpassed the record, congratulatory wishes started pouring from all over the cricket fraternity and Yadav’s message grabbed a lot of eyeballs.

There were speculations of bad blood between Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav after the two were involved in a sledging episode in the just-concluded 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Meanwhile, Surya openly expressed his admiration for Kohli as he tweeted, “Fastest to reach another Milestone @imVkohli 12,000 Runs in ODI cricket. Virat Kohli’s innings in the third ODI against Australia feel short as he only scored 63 runs with the willow off 78 deliveries. His knock included 5 boundaries at a strike rate of 80.77. With this, the Indian skipper is the second-highest run-getter in ODI cricket for India, with Sachin is leading the charts with a tally of 18,426 runs to his name from 463 matches.

As far as the match is concerned, Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya stitched a 150 runs+ partnership for the sixth wicket to guide the Indian team’s total to 302 runs in 50 overs. While Pandya smashed unbeaten 92 runs off 76 balls, Jadeja remained not out with 66 runs in 50 deliveries. Australia fell short of 13 runs during the chase.
