Suryakumar Yadav refers to Prithvi Shaw as a showstopper

India’s middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav has applauded his teammate and talented youngster Prithvi Shaw for working hard on his fitness and batting skills as well. The 30-year-old referred to him as a ‘showstopper.’ While speaking to media at a virtual press conference after winning the Man of the Series award against Sri Lanka for the ODI series, he was asked about his views on Prithvi Shaw’s recent rise.

He replied: “I only have one word for him. Whenever I see him bat or whenever I meet him, I only call him a ‘showstopper,’ meaning he is someone whom you love seeing and who loves everyone to have an eye on him. So, whenever he bats, he bats like that. And I would love to see him remain the same. He is batting brilliantly. His attitude while batting is brilliant. He has worked very hard on his fitness. It is really good to see him doing so well.”

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav also added that he was excited to see how Prithvi Shaw performs in his upcoming matches. Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw have played a pivotal role in India’s ODI series win against Sri Lanka as well.

While Shaw has given Team India good starts, Yadav made sure the middle order doesn’t collapse under any pressure and carry forward the good platform laid by the openers as well. Both Shaw and Yadav scored more than 100 runs in the three ODIs against Sri Lanka. While Yadav, making his ODI debut in the series, amassing 124 runs which came at an average of 62, Shaw managed 105 runs at a strike rate of 125 as well.

However, according to recent reports, Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav are likely taking a flight to the United Kingdom soon for the upcoming five-match Test series. Both of them are likely to join the Indian team along with Jayant Yadav as that team has been facing some injury concerns recently.
