Suryakumar Yadav has revealed the powerful message delivered inside the Indian dressing room after the team lifted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 trophy. India sealed a dominant 96-run victory over New Zealand in the final in Ahmedabad, securing a historic third T20 World Cup title and further establishing their dominance in the format.

The triumph marked another major achievement under the leadership partnership of Suryakumar and head coach Gautam Gambhir. Since the duo joined forces after India’s 2024 T20 World Cup success, the team has built an impressive record. India has remained unbeaten in bilateral T20I series during this period and also captured the Asia Cup in 2025, reinforcing their status as one of the most formidable white-ball sides in world cricket.
Speaking about the emotional moment after the final, Suryakumar shared details of Gambhir’s closing speech in the dressing room. According to the Indian captain, the coach placed the trophy before the squad and reminded them of the importance of collective success over individual milestones.

“It was Gauti bhai’s speech,” Suryakumar Yadav recalled in an interview with the Indian Express. “He put the trophy in front of us and said this is the most important thing in our dressing room. Nothing else matters. People may forget how many runs you scored, but they will always remember this trophy. In the end, we will be remembered for how many championships we won as a team.”

The message perfectly reflects Gambhir’s long-standing philosophy of prioritising team achievements over personal records. Throughout the tournament, India played fearless and aggressive cricket, producing several high-scoring performances that thrilled fans and overwhelmed opponents.
Gambhir is widely known for his intense, serious presence on the sidelines, but Suryakumar admitted the team eventually managed to put a smile on the coach’s face. After watching India dominate with the bat — posting massive totals like 250 and 256 during the tournament — Gambhir finally allowed himself to celebrate.

“In the first few games we didn’t give him many reasons to laugh,” Suryakumar Yadav joked. “But towards the end, after seeing how this team batted and performed, he was really happy. I think after the final he smiled the most.”
India’s title run was equally impressive for its consistency, with the team losing just one match throughout the campaign.
