India T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav said that India had luck while chasing as they beat Sri Lanka by seven wickets (DLS) in the second T20I on Sunday at the Pallekele International Stadium. After asking Sri Lanka to bat first, India restricted Sri Lanka to 161 for nine in 20 overs. However, rain arrived during India’s run-chase, after which the visitors were set a revised target of 78 in eight overs as well.
After the rain break, IMaheesh Theekshana troubled Indian batters. But once Suryakumar Yadav and Yashasvi Jaiswal started to play their strokes by using the sweep to good effect, Team India successfully chased down the target with eight balls to spare. Suryakumar Yadav also admitted that India were helped by the rain gods as targets of around the 160-run mark can be tricky to chase down as well.

“We spoke about this before this tournament, what brand of cricket we want to play. Even though it was a shorter target, this is the template we want going ahead. With the weather around, I thought anything below 160 or 150 chasing would’ve been nice. We’ve seen games here have been tricky. Rain helped us,” Suryakumar said in the post-match presentation ceremony. The way the boys batted…wonderful. We’ll sit and decide what we’ll do going forward [about next game’s playing XI]. Little bit of luck has to go around, and just blessed with [the rain.].”
Apart from doing well as a captain of India, Suryakumar Yadav has been impressive with the bat too, having scored 84 runs which came at an average of 42 and a strike-rate of 221.05. The third and final T20I of the series is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 30 and India will be looking for a clean sweep as well.
