Former India cricketer turned coach Abhishek Nayar has said that Suryakumar Yadav’s poor form will attract massive scrutiny if he isn’t able to lead the team to a series win in Australia. However, India are about to take on Australia in a five-match series beginning on Wednesday, October 29 at Manuka Oval in Canberra as well.

“This Australian tour presents an interesting scenario. While team victories often overshadow individual performances, any downturn in results will raise questions. As India’s T20I Captain and someone who’s been the number one-ranked batter in T20I cricket for a long period of time, Suryakumar’s extended run without significant scores at number three will inevitably create internal scrutiny,” said Nayar on JioStar’s ‘Game Plan’.
However, Abhishek Nayar also mentioned that Australian conditions will suit Suryakumar’s batting style.

“We know his calibre and impact potential, and Australian conditions with their bounce and pace should actually benefit his batting style. Ultimately, the biggest questions will come from within, as this current output doesn’t reflect his true capabilities,” he further added.
However, Suryakumar Yadav has a brilliant record in Australia, having scored 239 runs from six innings which came at an average of 59.75 and a strike rate of 189.68 with three fifties to his name. Ever since leading the T20I team in July 2025, he has scored 330 runs at an average of 18.33, with just two fifties as well. Following his poor returns in the Asia Cup 2025, Suryakumar Yadav will try to bounce back to form in Australia as well.
