Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav finally had something to cheer about as he won the toss for the first time in the ongoing T20I series against Australia — and his reaction said it all. The moment the coin landed in his favour, the Indian skipper threw his arms in the air, smiling broadly in pure relief and excitement. Australian captain Mitchell Marsh shared the light-hearted moment, walking over to hug Suryakumar in a gesture of sportsmanship and camaraderie that instantly went viral.

After the rain-washed opener in Canberra and a disappointing batting collapse at the Melbourne Cricket Ground — where India were bundled out for just 125 — the visitors entered the third T20I in Hobart desperate to level the series. Trailing 0–1, Suryakumar’s animated celebration at the toss was a sign of both relief and renewed optimism as India aimed to bounce back in style.

Speaking at the toss, Suryakumar admitted it felt good to have luck on his side finally. “We are going to bowl first. The ball should come nicely onto the bat in the second innings. Happy to take it one game at a time. We’ve made three changes,” the Indian skipper said with a grin. His words reflected a tactical shift, as India sought to capitalise on the evening conditions and chase on what was expected to be a batting-friendly surface.

Mitchell Marsh, on the other hand, called it a “belter of a wicket” and expressed confidence in his side’s batting depth. “We want to get off to a good start and post a big total. Just one change for us — Sean Abbott comes in for Josh Hazlewood,” the Australian skipper revealed.
India, reeling from their previous defeat, made several adjustments to strengthen their balance. Out went Sanju Samson, Harshit Rana, and Kuldeep Yadav, while Jitesh Sharma, Arshdeep Singh, and Washington Sundar were brought into the XI.

Suryakumar even joked earlier that he might need to perform a “pooja” to turn around his toss luck — and when he finally did, the smile on his face said it all. For India, the win at the toss wasn’t just about strategy — it symbolised a much-needed change in fortunes as they looked to regain momentum in the five-match T20I series.
