Star Indian batter Shreyas Iyer is currently undergoing treatment in Sydney after sustaining a serious injury while fielding during the third India vs Australia ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground on October 25. The 30-year-old suffered a laceration to his spleen and internal bleeding after an impact injury while attempting a catch. Though he was immediately rushed to the hospital and placed in the ICU, the latest reports confirm that Iyer has now been moved out of intensive care and is in a stable condition.

The BCCI released an official statement on October 28 confirming that the injury was promptly identified and the bleeding successfully arrested.
“Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding during the third ODI against Australia. His condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation. A repeat scan has shown significant improvement, and Shreyas is on the road to recovery,” the BCCI said.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the first T20I in Canberra, Suryakumar Yadav himself gave a positive update about his teammate. “When I got to know about his injury, I called our physio Kamlesh Jain. Iyer has been replying on the phone now, which means he is stable. Doctors are there with him, he’s speaking to people too, so it’s looking good. He’ll be monitored for the next few days,” Surya said.
The Indian skipper added that Iyer’s fighting spirit and mental strength will see him through this tough phase. “It’s unfortunate what happened, but by God’s grace, everything is fine. He’s strong, and we’ll take him back home soon,” Surya concluded with optimism.
