India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav once again brought his trademark humour to the field, creating a hilarious moment that lit up social media during the second T20I between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday, October 31. As India lost yet another toss, Suryakumar couldn’t hold back his amusement. The skipper was caught on camera performing a playful “Pooja karni padegi” gesture — suggesting that divine intervention might be needed to change India’s luck with the coin toss.

The gesture, made while Australian captain Mitchell Marsh was speaking to Ravi Shastri at the toss, left commentators, teammates, and even match referee Jeff Crowe in splits. The light-hearted act immediately went viral, with fans flooding social media with memes and laughter.

Unfortunately for Suryakumar and his men, the toss curse continues. India has now lost 16 consecutive tosses in men’s international cricket, including 18 in ODIs and eight in T20Is this year. On the other hand, Mitchell Marsh seems to have a Midas touch with the coin, winning his 19th toss in T20Is and choosing to chase for the 19th straight time.

Even cricket experts joined in the fun. Former Australia captain Aaron Finch joked on commentary, “I wouldn’t take Suryakumar Yadav to a casino. That’s crazy!” Meanwhile, former India pacer Varun Aaron quipped, “You have to check that coin. Someone needs to show us the reaction of the Indian team standing behind Ravi Shastri — they all looked heartbroken.”

Despite the toss setback, Suryakumar remained upbeat. “We are happy to bat first. That’s the brand of aggressive cricket we want to play. Shubman knows how to score runs and running between the wickets with him is always fun,” he said at the toss.

India stuck to the same playing XI from the first match, with Arshdeep Singh again warming the bench. Australia made one change, bringing in Matthew Short for Joshua Philippe. Marsh, smiling as always, said, “We are going to bowl first. It looks like a good pitch, and hopefully, it won’t change for 40 overs.”

Suryakumar’s fun moment once again showed why he’s one of the most charismatic leaders in modern cricket — a captain who blends intensity with humour, even when luck isn’t on his side.
