A heart-stopping moment unfolded at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow during the IPL 2025 clash between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants, as a ball girl took a painful blow while trying to catch a Suryakumar Yadav six. The incident occurred in the fifth over of the Mumbai Indians innings when Avesh Khan delivered a short-of-a-length ball outside off stump.

Suryakumar, looking to accelerate, dragged the ball to deep square leg. Despite not timing it perfectly, he generated enough power to clear the boundary. Unfortunately, the ball struck a young ball girl stationed beyond the fence. She seemingly lost sight of the ball in flight and was unable to get her hands up in time. The ball crashed into her chest before ricocheting away.

Admirably, despite the impact, she gathered herself quickly, retrieved the ball, and calmly handed it back to the fielders, earning a nod of respect from onlookers. At that point in the match, Mumbai Indians were 89 for 3 after 9 overs, with Suryakumar Yadav on 22 and Tilak Varma on 2. Mumbai’s innings had a shaky start, especially with Rohit Sharma missing out due to a knee issue. Will Jacks, opening in his place, managed only 5, while Ryan Rickelton departed for 10.

Naman Dhir provided some fireworks in the powerplay, smashing 46 off just 24 balls. His innings, laced with four boundaries and three sixes, injected much-needed momentum into the MI innings before he was dismissed.

Earlier, LSG posted a formidable 203 for 8, riding on half-centuries from Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram. Mumbai’s standout performer was captain Hardik Pandya, who picked up his maiden IPL five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 5 for 36—a record-setting effort for an IPL captain.
