Young leg-spinner Suyash Sharma has quietly become one of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s most inspiring stories this IPL season—not for his wicket tally, but for the grit he’s shown behind the scenes. The 21-year-old revealed that he was battling a painful condition for over two years before finally undergoing hernia surgery, thanks to the support from RCB.

Speaking on RCB Bold Diaries, Suyash Sharma shared that he had been playing through the pain for multiple seasons. “I used to play after taking injections because we didn’t really know what the issue was back then. I was just managing somehow. But it started becoming a serious problem,” he said.

Suyash was eventually diagnosed with three hernias and was flown to London for surgery by the franchise. There, he was cared for by James Pipey and his family, whom he credits for helping him recover both physically and emotionally. “RCB took such good care of me. James and his family treated me like one of their own. I didn’t even expect to play the first few matches this season, that’s how major the surgery was,” he added.

RCB had picked Suyash for ₹2.60 crore during the Jeddah auction last year after he impressed with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023 and 2024. Although his IPL 2025 campaign hasn’t produced a flurry of wickets, the leggie has shown character. In nine games, he’s taken four wickets with an economy of 7.97—his best outing being a tidy 2/26 spell against Punjab Kings on April 20 in Mullanpur.
Despite the modest numbers, Suyash’s journey this season is being celebrated by RCB fans. The franchise recently shared a heartfelt post dubbing him “The Survivor” for overcoming his physical setbacks and pushing hard to return fit and focused.
