The IPL 2025 opener between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) kicked off with a mix of excitement and drama at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Early in the match, former KKR player Suyash Sharma found himself in an awkward moment that caught everyone’s attention.

The incident occurred in the very first over when Josh Hazlewood, steaming in with the new ball, targeted Quinton de Kock. After smashing a boundary, de Kock attempted an aggressive slog but managed only a thick top edge. Positioned at short mid-wicket, Suyash had the opportunity to take a straightforward catch, but he fumbled, letting a golden chance slip. RCB’s newly appointed captain, Rajat Patidar, couldn’t hide his frustration at the missed opportunity.

Fortunately for RCB, the mistake didn’t prove costly. Just a few deliveries later, Hazlewood got his revenge by dismissing de Kock. Wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma pulled off a sharp catch to send the South African back to the pavilion, giving RCB an early breakthrough.
