Former Indian wicket-keeper batter, Syed Kirmani reckons that a player with the abilities and experience of the former Indian skipper, Virat Kohli needs to be in India’s squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 and could be a game-changer in the showpiece event this year. Kohli is going through one of the roughest phases of his career.

The star batter managed to score just 33 runs in 2 ODIs in the recently-concluded ODI series and even in T20Is, he had amassed 12 in England. Kohli returned from a break for the much-anticipated Birmingham Test but the star batter managed just 31 runs across 2 innings as his century drought had extended beyond 18 months years.

Virat Kohli will not be part of India’s ODI and T20I squads for the tour of the West Indies, scheduled to be commencing on July 22. The star batter has been rested for the 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is and is expected to return only for the Asia Cup T20 later this year or maybe for the Zimbabwe series.

During a recent chat with Dainik Jagran, Syed Kirmani said, “Virat Kohli has loads of experience. He should be in the T20 World Cup squad. Once Kohli returns to form, he will be unstoppable. He could be a game-changer. A player with Kohli’s experience and abilities deserves to be in the World Cup squad.”

Syed Kirmani reckoned that Kohli should be given a chance considering his contribution to the national team.

Explaining the same, Syed Kirmani said, “There is tough competition in the Indian team. Look, if someone else was going through the rough patch that Kohli is, he would have been dropped from the team by now. But I feel that an established player should be given the benefit of the doubt.”
