Bangladesh and West Indies locked horns against each other in the Super 12 round of the T20 World Cup 2021 in Sharjah. Both teams have lost their first two games and this is a must-win game for both as a defeat will eliminate the team.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl first. Bangladesh replaced Nurul Hasan and Nasum Ahmed with Soumya Sarkar and Taskin Ahmed. West Indies left Lendl Simmons and Hayden Walsh to bring Roston Chase and Jason Holder in the playing XI.

West Indies managed to score 142/7 in 20 overs despite some intent less batting display in the first half of their innings. Roston Chase scored 39 runs in 46 balls, featuring two fours, on his T20I debut. Nicholas Pooran’s timely 40-run knock in 22 balls helped West Indies to salvage towards the death overs as they posted a fighting total.

In response, Bangladesh started their chase very cautiously. They weren’t taking an early risk and lost Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Naim inside the powerplay. West Indies bowlers kept chipping timely wickets and put Bangladesh under pressure.

Bangladesh were needed 22 runs in 12 balls to win the game and Mahmudullah began the over with a six to Dwayne Bravo, which brought the equations down to 16 off 11. Bravo held his nerves and bowled four good balls. With 13 off 7, Liton Das decided to go areal on the last ball of the over.

Das connected Bravo’s last ball very well and it looked like sailed over long-on for a maximum. However, Jason Holder was alert near the ropes and put a timely jump to complete a fine catch.

Liton Das got out after scoring 44 runs in 43 balls. Bangladesh eventually went down by three runs and stand eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2021.
