The veteran Indian cricketer, Mithali Raj has taken some huge leaps in Indian cricket. From a Bharatnatyam prodigy to becoming one of the greatest women cricketers to have played the game, Raj’s dedication has helped her to have a hugely successful career; one that only saw her break a plethora of records including the highest run-scorer in ODIs to playing the most number of 50-over games in Women’s cricket but also lead Team India to two World Cup finals in 2005 and 2017.

Mithali gained cult status during the 2017 Women’s World Cup, not only for her performances on the field but also for her cheeky replies to the media persons. When asked by one of the reporters as to who her favorite male cricketer was, she was quick to rebut when she said: “Do you ask them who their favorite female cricketer is?”

Taapsee Pannu, who is set to portray the role of Mithali Raj in the latter’s biopic revealed the poster of the movie and captioned it: “I have always been asked who’s your favorite male cricketer but you should ask them who their favorite female cricketer is. The statement that made every cricket lover pause and introspects that do they love the game or the gender playing it. @M_Raj03 you are a ‘Game Changer’”

Mithali Raj, at 16 years, 205 days is the youngest to score an ODI century – 114 vs Ireland, 1999, in the history of women’s cricket. The Indian ODI skipper also holds the record of playing 74 consecutive innings between 2000 and 2007 without scoring a duck- the longest streak for any player at the time.

Raj also played as many as 109 consecutive ODI matches between 2004 and 2013- the longest for an Indian player in this format. The Indian woman captain is the only Women cricketer to complete 200 ODI matches.
