Zimbabwean cricketer Tarisai Musakanda has been arrested on a serious charge of attempted murder following a violent domestic dispute with his wife, Tinodiwanashe Makunike, also known as Mai Dewei. Musakanda, who last played international cricket nearly two years ago, has a history of personal and legal troubles. This incident adds another troubling chapter to his life, following a fatal road accident in 2022.
The altercation reportedly occurred when Mai Dewei hired two men to construct a shelter at her vending site. Tensions flared when the men returned to collect their payment, resulting in a confrontation with Musakanda. According to National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the clash quickly escalated.
Witnesses say the disturbing scene unfolded around 3 am, with neighbours being startled awake by Mai Dewei’s cries for help. One neighbour, who spoke anonymously, recounted the harrowing incident.

Tarisai Musakanda allegedly used a kitchen knife to inflict injuries on his wife, resulting in wounds to both her hands and her back. This incident isn’t isolated; the couple has reportedly had previous domestic disputes, including an incident where Musakanda beat her with a bat.
Following the altercation, Musakanda was arrested and is currently being held at Kwekwe Central Police Station. This arrest comes after his involvement in a 2022 road accident that resulted in the death of former tennis player Gwinyai Chingoka.
