The Indian cricket team is gearing up for a preparatory camp in Alur, set to commence on August 25. Players currently in Ireland, including Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Sanju Samson, and Tilak Varma, will be joining the camp on August 26. The primary objective of this camp is to refine the players’ skills in preparation for the upcoming Asia Cup tournament.
A senior BCCI official disclosed that the players available will reach Bengaluru by the evening of August 23 for the Alur camp, while those in Ireland will depart on August 24. The latter group is expected to first return to their respective home cities before converging in Alur on August 25.
The forthcoming preparatory camp isn’t just focused on the Asia Cup squad; it will also include 14 net bowlers to ensure high-intensity practice sessions without overburdening the primary bowling resources. “In addition to the Asia Cup squad, 14 net bowlers will be part of the Asia Cup preparatory camp. The idea is to ensure intensity and quality of net sessions is right up there and it doesn’t burn out the bowling resources,” a BCCI official stated.
The coaching staff, led by the esteemed Rahul Dravid, will oversee the camp to ensure the comprehensive development of the players. The men’s senior selection committee, under Ajit Agarkar’s leadership, will also monitor the proceedings closely.
A special emphasis will be on players making a return from injuries, particularly KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer. Their performance during the camp will be closely observed, as they aim to regain their form after a substantial period away from competitive cricket. Ajit Agarkar confirmed Iyer’s complete fitness, noting that he has already participated in three 50-over matches at the NCA.
The successful comebacks of Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna have injected renewed confidence into the Indian team, especially ahead of significant white-ball tournaments like the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup. The management’s primary focus now is to ensure the ongoing fitness and well-being of the core squad in the lead-up to these pivotal events.
