The support staff of the Indian cricket team which relentlessly works behind closed doors often kept away from the limelight. This includes assistant coach, the bowling coach, fielding coach, physio, trainer, assistant trainer, video analyst, logistics manager, team manager and a masseur.
After the two-month long and grueling tour to South Africa, a minor change can be expected in team India’s support staff. According to the reports of the Mumbai Mirror, the team’s logistics manager Rishikesh Upadhayaya may have to make his way out of the team and his replacement needs be an employee of the BCCI. Two probable names that have cropped up are of Mayank Parekh and Amit Siddeswar.
While Parekh has experience in logistics and has been in line for the role for quite some time now, Siddeswar’s name is a surprise for many. The latter is currently with the India Under-19 team in New Zealand. Recently, the team’s video analyst Ashish Tuli was also replaced in the last minute by CKM Dhananjay.
Indian players are currently in South Africa to play a full-fledged series comprising of three Tests, five ODIs, and three T20Is. Following their defeat in the first Test, India team management will have to make clever selections in the playing XI for the second Test. Not playing the deputy skipper Ajinkya Rahane, despite his great track record in overseas, raised several eyebrows.
Perhaps, skipper Virat Kohli will look to bring back Rahane, while another possible replacement would be of Shikhar Dhawan will make way for KL Rahul. The second Test starts at Centurion on Saturday.
