Team India Again Receives Fine For Slow Over-rate

Team India has been served with a fine of 20 percent of its match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against New Zealand in the fifth and final T20I in Tauranga on Sunday. Match referee Chris Broad imposed the sanction after the Indian players who were led by Rohit Sharma as they were one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In a media release regarding the same, the ICC said, “In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offenses, players are fined 20 percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time”.

Rohit pleaded guilty to the offense and accepted the proposed sanctions and hence, there will be no formal hearing. On-field umpires Chris Brown and Shaun Haig, and third umpire Ashley Mehrotra leveled the charge.

Indian pace attack led by Bumrah bowled like a unit that helped the men in blue to register an unprecedented series whitewash with a seven-run victory against New Zealand. With the series already in the bag after they won the first four matches of the five-match series, Virat Kohli took the rest and handed the captaincy reins to Rohit Sharma. India, electing to bat, rode on Rohit’s fifty to post 163/3 in 20 overs.
