The Indian cricket team will don a new look jersey in the upcoming ODI series against Jos Buttler’s England, and this change is sure to resonate with fans across the country. In a move that symbolizes national pride, the updated jersey prominently features the colors of the Indian tricolour, adding a fresh yet deeply patriotic touch to the team’s attire.

The three-match ODI series gets underway on Thursday, February 6, at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur. Rohit Sharma and his boys are preparing themselves for the battle, but what will be in store for fans is a marked visual difference while they are present on the field.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has implemented a change that is of monumental importance in the history of Indian cricket. The overall design has remained largely the same, but the most striking change has been to the shoulder area. The shoulders used to be a saffron colour with two white stripes.

The new jersey now includes all three colours of the Indian flag: saffron, white, and green, on the shoulders, giving it a more prominent appearance of the national tricolour. The blue of the Ashoka Chakra still forms an integral part of the design, reinforcing the patriotic theme.

This shift in jersey design isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s expected to boost the team’s sense of national pride and unity as they take on England. With the Champions Trophy looming, this new look might serve as a symbolic fresh start for the Men in Blue, who have struggled in the 50-over format.

India may have defeated England comprehensively 4-1 in the recently concluded T20I series, but when it comes to ODIs, there’s definitely something that India needs to prove. They haven’t won an ODI throughout last year and no player was picked in the ICC ODI Team of the Year. They will step on to the stadium donning freshly designed jerseys- and a rather new one with the skipper Rohit Sharma at its top – while having it all and everything set just right ahead of the Champions Trophy.
