Temba Bavuma, veteran South Africa captain, has been ruled out of the first Test against Bangladesh, which will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka. Cricket South Africa on Friday shared that Bavuma has suffered a left tricep muscle strain as well.
Bavuma will, however, travel with the squad to Dhaka on Tuesday and he will continue his recovery under the supervision of the medical team as well in preparation for the second Test. Meanwhile, Aiden Markram will lead the team in his absence. On the other hand, Dewald Brevis has earned his maiden call-up to the Test team as Bavuma’s replacement.
However, Lungi Ngidi has been added to the squad as a replacement for Nandre Burger, who will miss the Bangladesh tour due to a lumbar stress fracture as well. Burger will begin his rehabilitation with the medical teams of CSA and Western Province. However, the squad will convene for a red-ball camp at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria from October 12 to 14 for the two-match Test series scheduled to begin on October 21 as well.
