While the national selection committee chairman MSK Prasad recently claimed that the former Indian captain and the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni will play for Jharkhand in the knock-out stages of the ongoing 2018/19 Vijay Hazare Trophy, Dhoni decided to skip the tournament.

On Thursday (October 11), when MSK Prasad was announcing the first two ODIs squad of five-match home ODI series against Windies, he revealed that Dhoni will play the knock-out stage.

Talking about the senior players’ participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Prasad claimed, “Dhoni is playing the knock-outs. About Rayudu, I will check and get back.”

However, it later revealed that Dhoni decided to not play for Jharkhand in that stage as it may affect the team balance.

The Jharkhand head coach Rajiv Kumar said, “Dhoni feels that it would not be fair for him to join us at this stage, given that the team has done so well and reached the quarter-final stage in his absence. He doesn’t want to upset the team balance.”

However, it is not the first time when the miscommunication between the players and MSK Prasad has been observed. Earlier, during Indian pacer Ashish Nehra’s retirement from cricket, the similar kind of misinformation arrived.

In last November, Prasad had said that the selectors had a talk with Nehra and told him that they would not consider him for selection beyond the three-match home T20I series against New Zealand.

But Nehra totally denied that as he said that there was no such conversation with the selectors.

He told, “I heard about Prasad’s comments. I don’t know. The chairman of selection committee has not spoken to me about this. You have asked me this question, and I can only tell you about my interaction with the team management. When I started playing cricket, I didn’t take any selector’s permission. When I am leaving, I am not leaving with their permission.”

Later, Prasad had a wrong call on Indian Test wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha’s injury. While he told a Kolkata-based newspaper that Saha had a thumb injury to miss the games, later it was revealed that Saha was actually suffering from the shoulder injury and it required a surgery.

Recently, the middle-order batsman Karun Nair and the Test opener Murali Vijay have raised their voices about the lack of communication between the selectors and the players.
