The South African legendary batsman AB De Villiers has been on fire this season for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has come good for the team when they needed him and has managed to pull off matches with his spectacular batting. When he is not batting, he is pulling off miraculous catches that make him look Superhuman.
Hence it is not so surprising to understand why AB is loved universally. Even when he is playing against India for South Africa, the chants of “ABD…ABD” are never far away. In IPL also, whichever stadium he goes, the crowd is always longing to see him bat at his special level.
In the last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, AB De Villiers was in a smashing form. After scoring an amazing 69 that included 12 fours and one six with the bat, he took an unbelievable catch on the boundary ropes. He was hence called up at the post-match interview. When asked about his reaction for the fans, he made a very unusual comment that many could not understand. AB’s comment for the fans was ‘my bok boks’.
Many people could not make sense of what AB de Villiers had said. In fact, even the top cricket commentary websites failed to decipher what AB had said. Well, here is the meaning of the phrase. Bok Boks comes from the Afrikaans word, “Bokkie”, which is used referred as a term of endearment. Hence, ‘my bok boks’ mean ‘my close ones’. The story is not complete though.
AB’s catch last night was sensational…. his interview after the game was absolutely world class!!! #BokBoks 😂😂

Apparently, by using the phrase was used by a popular South African golfer recently. The golfer wanted to send a voice note on WhatsApp to his girlfriend. In the voice note, he had used the word ‘bok boks’. Much to his misfortune, he had ended up sending the note in a group chat and the trolls started circulating it widely. The fans mocked him and he became a butt of all jokes. And now, AB has certainly taken the troll to the global level by using the phrase in the IPL.
