KKR vice-captain Venkatesh Iyer has shared his views on Andre Russell’s batting spot in the batting lineup and claimed all the decisions made by the team management are well thought out as well. However, Russell’s form has been a concern for KKR in this season as he has failed to make a mark with the bat. In 5 matches, Russell has scored just 17 runs so far as well.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Venkatesh said, “I think from the analytics point of view it is a huge thing. The entry point of batters is everything in T20s. Once you assess if a certain pitch is suitable for an individual or not, let him come early or give a few overs. But in a team like KKR, where the batting order is known to be deep, we have the firepower to finish the game on a high, I think it isn’t much of a doubt going in.”

“People wouldn’t be talking about when he should come in or not. We should not forget that we have Rinku Singh also, we have Ramandeep as well. Yes, Russell has been doing this for a long time, but we have ample competition for him. When all these players come in a combination, it will be very difficult to bowl at them,” again said Venkatesh.

However, Venkatesh Iyer also said that there are grounds where KKR will need to consider the left-right combination as well, but he also said that the team management took all the decisions with clear thought behind them.

“There are grounds where we have to consider the left-right combination also. So there are a lot of things we have to consider, and alter certain batter’s entry point. But trust me, everything is well thought of. We have a lot of experience with DJ Bravo and every decision that they make is well thought of,” concluded Venkatesh Iyer.
