Former India head coach Ravi Shastri applauded MS Dhoni, saying that he has not seen a clam and composed person like him. Shastri said that he still doesn’t have Dhoni’s phone number, highlighting that Dhoni can stay away from his gadget for days if he wants to. Notably, Ravi Shastri worked with MS Dhoni during his tenure as India Team Manager and after that as the head coach.

While talking about Dhoni’s personality, Shastri, said that he has never seen the former India captain getting angry and the highs and lows in the game don’t make a difference to the way he approached the game as well.

“Even if he scores a zero, or scores a hundred, or win the World Cup, or lose in the first round, it doesn’t make a difference to him. I have seen a lot of cricketers, but there is no one like him. Even Sachin Tendulkar has a fantastic temperament, but he sometimes gets angry. But Dhoni doesn’t,” Shastri told Shoaib Akhtar on the Pakistan cricketer’s YouTube channel.

“If he can avoid having the phone in hand, he can avoid having the phone in hand. Till today, I don’t have his number. I have never asked for his number. I know he doesn’t carry his phone with him. When you want to get in touch with him, you know how to get in touch with him. He is that kind of a person,” Ravi Shastri further added.

MS Dhoni has retired from international cricket in August 2020 but he has been leading Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. He was one of the four players retained by the four-time IPL-title winner ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. Meanwhile, Shastri added that Virat Kohli is a charged up person on the field but off the field, he is entirely different.

However, Kohli has quit India’s T20I captain in September last year after which he was sacked as ODI captain just before the South Africa series. And, after the loss of Test series against South Africa, he has stepped down from the Test captaincy too.

“Virat is like a beast on the field, once he steps on the field, he just wants to compete and he does not care about anything else. But, completely opposite off the field, absolutely calm and chill,” Ravi Shastri concluded.
