Former India right-arm fast bowler, Ajit Agarkar, is India’s third-highest wicket-taker (288) in ODIs. Only Anil Kumble (334) and Javagal Srinath (315) have more wickets than him in ODIs as far as India is concerned.
In 191 ODIs, Agarkar picked up 288 wickets at an average of 27.85, an economy rate of 5.07 and a strike rate of 32.09. One of his deadly performances in the slog overs came during Australia’s tour of India in 2003 at Mumbai.
In what was the fourth match of the TVS Cup in 2003, Ricky Ponting, the then Australian captain, had won the toss and chose to bat. Australia scored 286-8 in 50 overs on the back of Damien Martyn’s fifth ODI hundred, 100 (119), with the help of 10 fours and six.
Apart from Martyn’s hundred, if one thing which was a highlight of the first innings, it was Agarkar’s last over of the innings. The right-arm fast bowlers gave away just four runs in the ultimate over and picked up three wickets. Watch the full video:
