After a disappointing loss in the second T20I, India bounced back with an impressive 11-run victory over South Africa in the third T20I on November 13 at SuperSport Park, Centurion. This match saw India put up a robust total of 219/6, thanks in large part to a resurgent Abhishek Sharma, who contributed a brisk 50 off just 25 balls.
However, the standout performance belonged to young Tilak Varma, who played an electrifying innings to lead India’s charge. Tilak Varm showcased his raw talent, blasting eight boundaries and seven sixes in an unbeaten 107 off 56 deliveries, ending with an outstanding strike rate of 191.07.

His maiden international century was a dream come true, a moment he described with pride as he played an innings that put India firmly back in contention in the series. But amid the celebration, a tense moment arose when Tilak took a tumble while fielding, attempting a save that ended with him crashing onto the ground and hitting his head.

Thankfully, after a quick concussion check by the team’s physiotherapist, Tilak Varma was given the green light to continue. He later mentioned, “I’m okay, the catch came through the lights, so it was a bit difficult, but I’m happy for the win.”
Tilak’s promotion in the batting order also proved crucial. The young left-hander had approached captain Suryakumar Yadav before the match, requesting a chance higher up in order to showcase his abilities.

Suryakumar granted him the opportunity, a decision that paid off spectacularly. Reflecting on his innings, Tilak expressed his gratitude: “I couldn’t imagine or put it into words. Scoring a hundred for my team was a dream, especially in such a crucial game. It was a good knock under pressure, and all credit goes to Suryakumar Yadav for trusting me with the chance to bat at three.”
