Tim David has revealed that his stunning 106-metre six against Chennai Super Kings was not a lucky swing of the bat, but the product of a very specific training routine at Royal Challengers Bengaluru. According to the Australian power-hitter, the RCB group regularly challenges one another in practice to clear the stadium roof, a habit that has helped turn raw power into match-winning execution.

The huge hit at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium quickly became one of the defining moments of IPL 2026, and David said the shot felt especially satisfying because it came out of the middle of the bat in a real game. He also credited the environment around him, with batting coach Dinesh Karthik stressing the importance of repetition and clarity in power-hitting.

“Yeah, I’ve been getting in trouble with training the boys. We have competitions to try and hit them on the roof and we’re obviously on the side pitches. So to get one during a match out of the middle is pretty pleasing. And Jamie’s bowling quicker at that stage. So, get on the one, help it up on the roof. It’s good fun,” Tim David said.

David’s knock proved to be the turning point in RCB’s huge win over CSK. Coming in after strong contributions from Rajat Patidar and Devdutt Padikkal, he took complete control of the death overs and finished unbeaten on 70 off just 25 balls. His blistering assault included 30 runs in one over off Jamie Overton, helping RCB surge to 250/3 before CSK were restricted to 207.

The innings was a powerful blend of timing, clean hitting and intent. David picked the shorter boundaries smartly, punished anything loose, and kept the scoreboard moving at an outrageous pace. His 106-metre six off Overton was the headline moment, sailing over the roof and sending the Bengaluru crowd into a frenzy.

Even the small moments went his way. After surviving a no-ball earlier in the innings, David made sure CSK paid heavily for every mistake. He ended with eight sixes and three boundaries, powering RCB to a total that completely blew the game open. For Karthik, it was a reminder that David’s brute force is backed by serious preparation, and on this night, that work showed in full.
