In a chaotic 14-over clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Tim David stood tall amidst ruins. The shortened encounter, courtesy of Bengaluru’s infamous rains, saw RCB invited to bat first. What followed was a top-order disaster. RCB slumped to 63/9, with Punjab’s bowlers running riot on a two-paced surface. But Tim David, brought in to provide firepower, played a knock of immense value and composure, cracking an unbeaten 50 off 26 balls.

Rajat Patidar gave him brief support with 23 off 18, but it was David’s counterattack in the final over that rescued RCB from total embarrassment. After three dots against Harpreet Brar, David launched three consecutive sixes over long-off, deep square leg, and deep point. A no-ball kept him at the crease, allowing him to complete his maiden IPL fifty with a couple on the final delivery.

Despite RCB posting just 95/9—the lowest IPL first-innings total with an individual fifty—David’s innings gave the scoreline some respectability. His innings joins an elite list alongside Dinesh Karthik’s 66* (2022) as one of only two fifty-plus scores at No. 7 or lower for RCB.

Since his arrival at RCB, David’s finishing prowess has added much-needed depth: 22*(8) vs CSK, 32(18) vs GT, 1*(1) vs MI, 37*(20) vs DC, and now 50*(26) vs PBKS. His consistency in the lower order has provided RCB with late surges in otherwise difficult matches.
