New Zealand opener Tim Seifert put on a show in Dunedin, taking star Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi to the cleaners with four massive sixes in a single over. The brutal assault came in the third over of New Zealand’s innings during the rain-shortened second T20I on March 18. Seifert, a seasoned T20 campaigner, made his intentions clear from the first ball, launching Shaheen for a towering six straight down the ground.

Seifert followed it up with another maximum over backward point, sending shockwaves through the Pakistani camp. After a dot ball on the third delivery and a couple of runs off the fourth, Seifert unleashed two monstrous sixes over deep midwicket, making it four sixes in the over and shifting the momentum firmly in New Zealand’s favour.

Shaheen, Pakistan’s pace spearhead, had begun the match on a promising note with a maiden over, but Seifert’s onslaught in his second over changed the game. The left-arm pacer ended up conceding 26 runs in that over—the most he has ever given in a single T20I over. Pakistan, desperate to bounce back from their heavy nine-wicket defeat in the first T20I, had high hopes from Shaheen, but his struggles continued as he finished wicketless with figures of 0/31 in three overs.

New Zealand, chasing a revised target of 136 in 15 overs, made light work of the chase. Seifert’s 45 off 22 balls (3 fours, 5 sixes) and Finn Allen’s blistering 38 off 16 balls (1 four, 5 sixes) provided a strong foundation. Wicketkeeper-batter Mitchell Hay ensured there were no hiccups, finishing unbeaten on 21 off 16 balls as the Kiwis romped home in just 13.1 overs.

For Pakistan, Haris Rauf was the only standout bowler, picking up 2/20 in his three overs, while Mohammad Ali, Khushdil Shah, and Jahandad Khan chipped in with a wicket each. The two teams will now head to Auckland for the third T20I on March 21, with Pakistan desperately looking to keep the series alive.
