New Zealand pacer Tim Southee will miss the opening encounter of two-match Test series against West Indies. Uncapped batsman George Worker has been drafted into the squad.
Southee took his name back because his wife is expecting their first baby this week, which forced him to sit out from the first Test of this home season. Meanwhile, fast bowler Lockie Ferguson is also added in the team to strengthen the bowling department.
Gavin Larsen, New Zealand selector, said: “Obviously there are things more important than cricket and we support Tim and his decision to stay with his family right now. George will join the Test squad for the first time on the back of his form in First Class cricket over the past couple of seasons.”
Regular wicketkeeper BJ Watling is injured and he has been replaced by Tom Blundell, who will make his Test debut in Wellington. The series opener is scheduled to play from December 1 to 5.
